The National Council of Entrepreneurial Tech Transfer (NCET2) announces a University Startup Showcase (USS) as part of its 7th annual University Startups Conference on March 20-22, 2013 in Washington, DC. Each year U.S. universities create around 600 new companies based on the almost $35 billion dollars of federally funded research conducted at universities. The USS will showcase the best university startup companies, as nominated by the country's major research universities, to leading venture capitalists, angel investors, strategic investors and SBIR program mangers.
We invite U.S. universities to nominate their best companies in any field, including but not limited to: Chemicals, Materials, Electronics, Energy, Environmental, Healthcare/ Biotech, Industrial, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Media/Communications, Software/Services.
Companies should be ready for $100,000-$500,000 of funding and ideally have already been vetted by the nominating university, and received accelerator or proof-of concept funding from the university or from a university-affiliated funding source.
USS consists of 2 parts:
PART 1: Oct 2012- Feb 2013
Part 1 will have weekly online Virtual Showcases featuring 10 companies each week. Companies will be showcased by industry category before by-invitation only investors of angel investors, venture capitalists, Global 1000 companies and SBIR program managers. Each company will present in a 10 minute presentation slot and be scored by our exclusive investor audience. Aggregate company scores in each scored section will be provided to the company. Direct communications and transactions between companies and investors after the Virtual Showcase is a preferred outcome of Part 1 of the Showcase.
PART 2: Friday March 22, 2013
Part 2 will invite 10 of the top-scoring companies from the Virtual Showcase to make a second round of in-person presentations at the University Startups Conference on Friday, March 22, 2013 before an investor audience. Additionally, each of the participating companies in the virtual showcase will also be invited to the conference to meet the scoring investors and other investors attending the conference. The conference is expected to be a convenient meeting place for investors interested in communicating and transacting with multiple companies at the same time.
