IBM’s Osprey quantum computer - IBMIBM has built the largest quantum computer yet. Dubbed Osprey, it has 433 qubits, or quantum bits, which is more than triple the size of the company’s previously record-breaking 127-qubit computer and more than eight times larger than Google’s 53-qubit computer Sycamore.

Though quantum computers hold the promise of eventually solving problems that conventional computers could never tackle, there is no consensus on the best way to make one. IBM and Google base their qubits on circuits made from superconductors that conduct electricity perfectly. Others …

Mozilla Logo StaticMozilla, creators of the popular Firefox browser, has launched a venture capital fund to finance startups which it deems to be ‘responsible’ in their technological activities.

Mozilla Ventures will be reserved for seed and series A startups who meet the company’s ethical criteria, as set out in its Mozilla Manifesto, which looks for tech firms and investors who respect the principles of “privacy, inclusion, transparency, and human dignity”.

To find out, researchers at Atlantic Health System are conducting a clinical trial, alongside other centres, to evaluate the efficacy of an experimental mRNA vaccine for patients with late-stage melanoma, the most lethal form of skin cancer.

“This trial really resonates with patients,” says oncologist, Eric Whitman, medical director of Atlantic Health’s oncology service line, who is leading the study locally at Morristown Medical Center (MMC) in New Jersey. “They’ve heard how effective mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are; using a similar technology to help their body recognize and destroy melanoma makes sense to them.”

Majestic rotate earth orbit sunlight glow galaxy 2021 08 29 03 57 01 utcSolar power has been widely used all throughout the world as more countries opt for renewable sources of energy. However, there is a higher volume of solar energy in space where there is no day, night, and clouds that would limit us from harvesting power from the Sun.

Hence, a group of researchers from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is building a huge satellite that can harvest solar energy and then wirelessly transmit it back to our planet. If the project proves successful, it could power a wide range of places in the world.
