(CREDIT: SOURCE.CO)By harvesting water vapor from the air and condensing it into liquid, atmospheric water generators can essentially pull water from the air, and these devices hold a lot of promise for providing an independent source of drinking water.

And although drought-stricken regions and locations without safe or stable water sources are prime candidates for water production and purification devices such as those, residences and commercial buildings in the developed world could also benefit from their use, and they make a great fit for off-grid homes and emergency preparedness kits.

Steve Jobs Headshot 2010 CROP cropped 2Entrepreneurs and small business owners are usually optimists by nature. After all, they started or have built a company. But you might have the tendency in startups and smaller companies to say yes too often which can be a bad habit since it may result in wasted time, becoming over-committed, losing focus and getting burnt out. At the end, you might make poor decisions and the business might suffer due to lack of resources or simply a lack of focus. What’s the solution? You might need to say ‘No’ more often.

Bigread 1SINGAPORE: It was not too long ago that detractors were pouring cold water on Singapore's efforts to nurture entrepreneurs and start-ups.

For example, a 2012 Reuters' article headlined “Failure to launch: Singapore start-ups struggle to woo investors”, talked about how the country's push "to become a hotbed for entrepreneurs is stuck at stage one" and only 2 per cent of the total venture capital investment in Asia were flowing into Singapore.

Image: It may have been a slow start for Singapore but within a decade, what had seemed like an innovation desert is now looking like a flourishing oasis — so much so that Singapore is being dubbed the "Silicon Valley of Asia". (Photo: Unsplash/Marvin Meyer)

After testing several prototypes, they are now ready for the next step: industrial production. By 2030, they hope to be able to install the panels on the roofs of homes.

Hydrogen is the smallest and lightest of all chemical elements and has a special property: it carries energy. Hydrogen gas is an energy carrier that can store and produce both electricity and heat.

26292ef0 5912 11ed a7bd 3ac15eb8c13cInnovation experts have today revealed a futuristic blueprint for how the cardboard box might evolve in the next 50 years.

Released to celebrate the 150th year of the cardboard box, the characteristics of the self-healing box include a webbed nerve system that borrows from the composition of leaves.

Sensors are printed onto the ‘skin’ of the box and connect all fibres in the packaging so that it can ascertain damage and communicate externally.

Other features – revealed by experts at DS Smith – include regenerative ‘scar tissue’, which heals itself just like the human body.

It's best to chop up leaves, which will then break down in the grass. Rake excess amounts into a landscape bed.
Kris Lord/Flickr Creative CommonsAs leaves across America make their annual autumn pilgrimage from the treetops to the ground, lawn and wildlife experts say it's better to leave them around than to bag them.

First, because it keeps leaves out of landfills. Every year, about 8 million tons of leaves end up there.

And second, because leaves help the grass.

Leaves are full of nutrients, including nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

"Those nutrients are being returned to the soil," Susan Barton, a professor and extension specialist in landscape horticulture at the University of Delaware, told NPR. "But probably even more important than that, it's the organic matter. It's the fact that you've got this tissue that then eventually decomposes and improves the soil health."

Spider web with ghosts on black background 2022 10 20 02 48 53 utc 1“There’s more dry powder powder than ever before.”

“There’s never been a better time to start a startup.”

“Discipline is the new scale.” (OK, OK, I made that last one up, but didn’t you kind of believe it?).

The tech industry loves generalizations — and don’t worry, I enjoy my fair share too — but as the downturn continues to play out, it’s increasingly important to think about the structural changes that may be forming in the venture capital landscape. Venture firms, unlike unicorns, often don’t have hundreds of employees to cut. Instead, venture firms cut costs in quieter ways.

Innovation and creative idea concept 2021 08 26 22 35 40 utcApple, Google, and other companies mandating that employees work in the office for most or all of their time claim that any time spent working remotely stifles innovation. According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, "Innovation isn't always a planned activity. It's bumping into each other over the course of the day and advancing an idea that you just had. And you really need to be together to do that."

Yet is this true? On the one hand, research at MIT found that remote work weakens the cross-functional, inter-team "weak ties" that form the basis for the exchange of new ideas that tend to foster innovation. A study by Microsoft similarly found that remote work weakens innovation since workers communicate less with those outside their own teams.

Question mark gd16f8d084 640 pngUndoubtedly, we are living in a world of ever-increasing hyper-specialization. The advantages of being a specialist rather than a generalist have become more than obvious ever since Henry Ford innovated the production line. However, the trend toward specialization is much older.

In the ancient world, most intellectuals (usually philosophers) were polymaths. Yet, as knowledge accumulates and the complexity of each field increases, it becomes increasingly difficult to be up to speed and to understand all knowledge branches deeply enough to be competent and productive.
