Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz have raised nearly a billion dollars in the 18 months since they founded their Silicon Valley venture firm, Andreessen Horowitz, even though they’ve never been venture capitalists before.How’d they do it? The obvious reason is that the two partners are incredibly successful entrepreneurs - Andreessen co-founded web-browser pioneer Netscape Communications Corp., hiring Horowitz as one of the company’s first product managers, and the pair founded software company Opsware Inc., selling it to Hewlett-Packard Co. for $1.6 billion. As a result, entrepreneurs trust their expertise, so they get access to the best deals.
