The Division of Industrial Innovation & Partnerships (IIP), housed within the Foundation's Engineering Directorate, manages programs with national reach and prestige, including America's Seed Fund powered by NSF, I-Corps™, INTERN, IUCRC, and Partnerships for Innovation.

More information about the position: The IIP Division Director serves as a member of the Directorate for Engineering leadership team and as the Foundation's principal advocate for industry-university partnerships, industry-inspired basic research, translational research, technology transfer, entrepreneurial education, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR). Provides leadership and direction for the Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships (IIP) that serves the entire Foundation by fostering partnerships to advance technological innovation, and plays an important role in the public-private innovation partnership enterprise.

The incumbent assesses needs and trends in the areas supported by IIP, including two congressionally mandated small business programs (SBIR and STTR), implements overall strategic planning and policy setting with other Divisions, Directorates, Federal agencies, the industrial sector, scientific organizations and academic community. Responsible for ensuring that the Foundation meets the requirements for entrepreneurial training and translational research as mandated in the American Innovation and Competitiveness Act (AICA).

The incumbent has managerial and oversight responsibilities for the effective use of division staff and resources in meeting organizational goals and objectives. This includes directing the activities of the Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships, assessing the needs and trends in innovation and entrepreneurship, developing university-industry partnerships, implementing overall strategic planning, and policy setting. Supervises and provides leadership and guidance to the IIP Deputy Division Director, IIP program officers, and administrative and support personnel. Determines funding requirements, prepares and justifies budget estimates, balances program needs, allocates resources, oversees the evaluation of proposals and recommendations for awards and declinations, and represents NSF to relevant external groups.
