The researchers used egg whites to create an aerogel, a lightweight and porous material that can be used in many types of applications, including water filtration, energy storage, and sound and thermal insulation. Craig Arnold, the Susan Dod Brown Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and vice dean of innovation at Princeton, works with his lab to create new materials, including aerogels, for engineering applications.

Morand's eTechnology storage relies on hybrid ultracapacitor cells from fellow Swiss company Sech SAMorandAn electric car that can charge in as little time as it takes to pump a gas vehicle has long been the dream of existing and would-be EV drivers. But what if it could charge even more quickly? The average gas fill-up takes two minutes, according to the American Petroleum Institute, with other estimates coming in higher. A new electric energy storage technology being developed by Swiss tech startup Morand could offer electric city car charging times in slightly more than half that two-minute time. A cross between traditional batteries and ultracapacitors, the company's eTechnology units offer potential game-changing charging rates, coupled with the possibility of much longer lifespans than lithium-ion batteries.

Social Media Universe 2022 1200pxFor a time, life in the social media universe was mostly uneventful. Consider these spicy (at the time) headlines:

  • Even President Obama Thinks That Facebook Isn’t Cool Anymore (Techcrunch, 2014)
  • Jack Dorsey Returns to Twitter as Chief, to Shrugs and Quips (New York Times, 2015)
  • Instagram’s new stories are a near-perfect copy of Snapchat (Mashable, 2016)

In hindsight, the years leading up to 2016 were downright sleepy in comparison with what would follow. Donald Trump’s meteoric, tweet-powered rise to the presidency. The Cambridge Analytica scandal. Congressional hearings on privacy and bias. TikTok at the center of souring U.S.–China relations. Each new day brought a fresh wave of controversy the shores of once infallible social media platforms.

Tired worker at table in office 2021 08 26 15 37 07 utcA client of Ron’s, “Kelsey,” a division general manager of a large food manufacturer, recently told him, “Everyone on my team seems tired…all the time. I ask them how they’re doing, and they tell me ‘fine.’ If someone asks for time off, I say yes. They get the work done, but it seems like they’re in a fog. I don’t know what to do.”

Kelsey’s organization and industry were hit hard by the last two years of volatility and as a result saw increased employee turnover, supply chain disruptions, changing workforce expectations about flexibility, and exhausting demands on time. The aftermath has been a widespread human energy crisis. And Kelsey is hardly alone.

Woman wrinting on calendar 2021 09 02 10 31 12 utcYou don’t lack time. You just waste most of it on useless busyness.

Sooner or later, you’re going to have to accept this.

An average user spends two and a half hours daily on social media in 2022. As of 2020, Netflix users watched an average of 3.2 hours of video per day through the service — that’s 6 billion collective hours per month. When we look at these stats, it’s easy to think, “Wow! People waste so much time” as if we don't contribute to these stats. But we do. You’re a part of these. And so am I.

Property ladder 2021 08 26 22 29 59 utcAthird-quarter downturn in venture capital (VC) dollars raised in the United States, particularly in later-stage deals and from nontraditional investors like asset managers, is the first evidence of distress in the VC ecosystem.

The value of VC deals for the first three quarters of 2022 was still historically high at $194.9 billion, according to the Pitchbook-NVCA Venture Monitor, from Pitchbook and the National Venture Capital Association. (See chart.) But last quarter saw a dip to $43 billion invested from $62.3 billion in the second quarter. That’s a nine-quarter low, according to Pitchbook-NVCA. That cemented “a tone of investor hesitancy and increased focus on business fundamentals amid the global economic downturn,” according to the report accompanying the data.

START YOUR SEARCH The venture ecosystem is dealing with a barrier, more well known as a “concrete ceiling.” Oftentimes, social, gender and socioeconomic factors play into this; making it an ongoing challenge for women and underrepresented groups to break through.

JETy this time next decade, you could be reading this story on a phone charged by fusion power, the same energy source that fires the sun.

There's no guarantee that future will arrive on time or at all. Fusion reactions have proved notoriously difficult for humans to sustain, despite some companies trying since the 1990s. But a recent surge in technology improvements and investment has delivered steady progress -- and optimism the environmentally friendly technology is within reach.

World population reaches 8 billionEight billion humans are living on planet Earth — a huge milestone officially projected for and being recognized Tuesday by the U.N.

Why it matters: People are living longer, with generally better access to health care, food, clean water and sanitation than in past generations. A smaller share of humans live in extreme poverty.

There are still challenges — ongoing ramifications from the pandemic, a record number of forcibly displaced people and worsening climate change.

Adult man following stock market data 2022 01 18 23 51 36 utcIn 2006, British mathematician and entrepreneur Clive Humby said, “Data is the new oil.” The Economist furthered that comparison between the economy that has risen around data and the oil industry in a 2017 article.

Comparing data to something valuable and coveted all over the world, such as oil, or even gold, helps people understand just how much of a commodity data has become, but it’s also important to remember that data is its own thing and must be approached with a different mindset. Fortunately, there are some changes on the horizon that will make personal data more collaborative and consistent. This will benefit individuals and large corporations alike.

Tired black manager suffering from burnout workin 2022 10 07 01 03 17 utcThere are two kinds of salespeople: peak performers and poor performers.

Peak-performing salespeople record fantastic sales consistently, but poor-performing salespeople share boring tales of defeat in the marketplace consistently.

Selling is perhaps the single most important activity that any profit-seeking organization engages in. If you’re not selling, then you might go out of business faster than you think. At the end of the day, it all comes down to the bottom line; the numbers have to add up.

A prototype of Arkenlight's carbon-14 diamond betavoltaic battery. (CREDIT: University of Bristol)Nuclear power is considered a clean energy source because it has zero carbon dioxide emissions; yet, at the same time, it produces massive amounts of hazardous, radioactive waste that pile up as more and more reactors are built around the world.

Experts have proposed different solutions for this issue in order to take better care of the environment and people’s health. With insufficient safe storage space for nuclear waste disposal, the focal point of these ideas is the reutilization of the materials.
