Morand's eTechnology storage relies on hybrid ultracapacitor cells from fellow Swiss company Sech SAMorandAn electric car that can charge in as little time as it takes to pump a gas vehicle has long been the dream of existing and would-be EV drivers. But what if it could charge even more quickly? The average gas fill-up takes two minutes, according to the American Petroleum Institute, with other estimates coming in higher. A new electric energy storage technology being developed by Swiss tech startup Morand could offer electric city car charging times in slightly more than half that two-minute time. A cross between traditional batteries and ultracapacitors, the company's eTechnology units offer potential game-changing charging rates, coupled with the possibility of much longer lifespans than lithium-ion batteries.

Social Media Universe 2022 1200pxFor a time, life in the social media universe was mostly uneventful. Consider these spicy (at the time) headlines:

  • Even President Obama Thinks That Facebook Isn’t Cool Anymore (Techcrunch, 2014)
  • Jack Dorsey Returns to Twitter as Chief, to Shrugs and Quips (New York Times, 2015)
  • Instagram’s new stories are a near-perfect copy of Snapchat (Mashable, 2016)

In hindsight, the years leading up to 2016 were downright sleepy in comparison with what would follow. Donald Trump’s meteoric, tweet-powered rise to the presidency. The Cambridge Analytica scandal. Congressional hearings on privacy and bias. TikTok at the center of souring U.S.–China relations. Each new day brought a fresh wave of controversy the shores of once infallible social media platforms.

Tired worker at table in office 2021 08 26 15 37 07 utcA client of Ron’s, “Kelsey,” a division general manager of a large food manufacturer, recently told him, “Everyone on my team seems tired…all the time. I ask them how they’re doing, and they tell me ‘fine.’ If someone asks for time off, I say yes. They get the work done, but it seems like they’re in a fog. I don’t know what to do.”

Kelsey’s organization and industry were hit hard by the last two years of volatility and as a result saw increased employee turnover, supply chain disruptions, changing workforce expectations about flexibility, and exhausting demands on time. The aftermath has been a widespread human energy crisis. And Kelsey is hardly alone.

Woman wrinting on calendar 2021 09 02 10 31 12 utcYou don’t lack time. You just waste most of it on useless busyness.

People waste so much time” as if we don't contribute to these stats. But we do. You’re a part of these. And so am I.

Property ladder 2021 08 26 22 29 59 utcAthird-quarter downturn in venture capital (VC) dollars raised in the United States, particularly in later-stage deals and from nontraditional investors like asset managers, is the first evidence of distress in the VC ecosystem.

The value of VC deals for the first three quarters of 2022 was still historically high at $194.9 billion, according to the Pitchbook-NVCA Venture Monitor, from Pitchbook and the National Venture Capital Association. (See chart.) But last quarter saw a dip to $43 billion invested from $62.3 billion in the second quarter. That’s a nine-quarter low, according to Pitchbook-NVCA.
