The Iowa Senate passed a $78.5 million economic development budget bill Wednesday that Democratic lawmakers contend should help bolster Gov. Terry Branstad’s efforts to create 200,000 new jobs statewide.

Senate File 430 represents an increase in spending of $40.8 million over the current state budget year and an increase of $5.6 million over Branstad’s spending recommendation. The vote was 26-24 with Democrats in favor and Republicans against.
