The more business Uber, Airbnb, and other Silicon Valley companies do, the more government suffers from a loss of taxes. Uber, for instance, avoids licensing fees and withholding taxes for its “independent contractors.” Airbnb avoids hotel taxes, licensing fees, and other indirect taxation.
